2018 Pinot Port Reviews
Sam Kim – Wine Orbit – 90 points/4.5 stars
Beautifully complex and fragrant, the bouquet shows dried cherry, mixed spice, thyme and malt biscuit aromas, leading to a sweetly rich palate displaying creamy texture and spicy nuances. Attractively framed by fine discreet tannins, finishing soothing and satisfying.
Michael Cooper – Michael Cooper’s Wine Buyer’s Guide – 4.5 stars
This delicious ‘ruby port’ was made from hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes, grown at Adams Gully, south of Bannockburn. Matured for two years in old French oak barrels, it is ruby hued, with some maturity showing. Fragrant, it has strong cherry, spice and liquorice flavours, showing good complexity, and a seductively sweet, smooth finish. Well worth discovering.
John Bartlett – The New Zealand Wine Directory
Bright cherry/ruby red in colour with medium oily viscosity. Very intense plum & raisin fruit aromas while on the palate there’s more dark caramelised fruit, toffee and lovely textural elements from 2 years maturing in French Oak barrels. Not as ‘big’ as ports usually made from Touriga or Tinto grapes, more subtle with warmth from 18% ABV, a raisiny sweetness with a silky tannin dryness on the finish. Absolutely Delicious!
